I just had to take my cat to the vet today because he wasn’t being himself. After the visit I talked with my husband about getting the pet Insurance. I just wondered if anyone else has it and if it’s worth it?
He is an indoor only kitty. U.T.D on all his shots and fixed. I spoil him

Pet insurance can be worth it, or it can be a waste of money. It depends on what the insurance covers, the cost of insurance, the deductible, and how likely your pet is to suffer those things that are covered.
I wish I had gotten pet insurance on my cat before she was diagnosed with her skin condition. I have yet to find an insurance that will cover a pre-existing condition, however there are some that will cover genetic/congenital issues if your pet is enrolled in the plan before they are diagnosed with them. However I think this does not include things in which a breed is predisposed to (hip dysplasia, pkd, etc).
This being said, will I learn from this experience and get pet insurance on my next pet? At this stage in my life, I’m leaning toward probably not. Her condition is supposed to be exceedingly rare, so I would most likely not be dealing with the same thing twice. Depending on how her treatment goes, however, I may or may not change my mind before I decide to get another cat, which will be a while as I can’t own another while I have my current one, for her sake.
Wow i didnt even know it existed.
) if your cat is an outside cat
Well actually i would get it (if it exits
According to Consumers Reports, pet insurance is a "bad investment." Better, they recommend, to have a separate savings account and put money into IT on a regular basis, and keep that reserved for any pet vet emergencies or large expenses. If you put the same amount of money into a savings account that you would have otherwise put into paying the monthly insurance premium, the savings (and what little interest) will become significant soon enough.
Me… kittyslave23… I know my place.
I have pet health insurance and I think it’s very worth the money. Some people say you should just put money into a savings account to be used for pet emergencies. But unless you’re REALLY good at saving significant sums of money, it’s not really the best idea. If your cat has an emergency medical condition or injury, it can easily cost thousands of dollars — and how long would it take you to save thousands of dollars? And you’d just have to hope that your cat stays perfectly healthy until you have enough time to build up enough money in that savings account to cover the veterinary expenses.
I do have pet health insurance for my cat and I’m really glad I do! I’ll tell you a little bit about the company that insures my cat. They offer a few different plans and I chose the one that will cover my cat for up to $12,000 per year with a $200 deductible. That way, I know that the most I’ll pay is $200, even if she needs extensive treatment that costs thousands of dollars. This company also covers hereditary conditions (some breeds are prone to certain conditions and some insurance companies won’t cover those conditions). They even cover alternative treatments like chiropractic care and acupuncture. Besides that, they’ll pay for the cost of boarding your pet if you ever become hospitalized and temporarily can’t take care of your pet. And it turns out that they’re the #1 pet insurance company in the country with the highest customer satisfaction of all of the companies.
From personal experience, I know they’re very good. A few months ago, my cat got REALLY sick and she had to be hospitalized and underwent a lot of testing and a lot of treatment. I used a credit card to pay for everything and I kept all the receipts. After all the treatment was completed, the total cost was just over $2,000. I faxed copies of all the receipts to the pet insurance company and they reimbursed me everything except $200 (I have a $200 deductible) within nine days! As for the cost of the insurance itself, it’s not expensive at all. I pay only $144 PER YEAR (not per month) for my cat. So, for only $144 dollars, my cat can get up to $12,000 worth of treatment. The cost for the insurance at my cat’s insurance company, of course, depends on which of the plans you choose. There’s a cheaper plan than the one I chose and I know that there are more expensive plans, too. They let you choose how much you want the deductible to be, so that, too, can affect the cost.
Anyway, just to let you investigate this particular company further, I’m giving you a link to their web site. If you have any questions, you can call them — they’re very helpful on the phone.
