Looking for individual dental insurance in NY without a 12-month waiting period – is there such a thing?

I’m shopping around for dental insurance and most plans I see have a 12 month waiting period for major procedures – and I’m going to need to get my wisdom teeth out soon. Can anybody recommend me a plan?

Thanks!

All individual dental insurance will have waiting periods of 12 to 36 months before you get the full benefits for major proceedures. Many people find that dental schools are a good option if you cannot wait for the insurance to kick in. Here is a listing of dental schools: http://www.yourhealthplanadvisor.com/Dentalschools.html

You are not going to find a plan that is going to cover major dental work without a waiting period. In addition there is often a clause that excludes preexisting conditions.

You should have coverage in place before you have a medical need. That is how insurance is designed to work. You pay a small amount over a long period of time so that if a large expense occurs you will be able to handle it.

Sorry I could not be of more help.

    No.

I’ve never seen a private dental policy that pays out more than it takes in.

Those wait periods, are for everyone else – just like you – who only wants to pay for insurance in the month that they want to have all the dental work done.

Insurance companies can’t pay out $1000 and take in $30 and stay in business. That’s why there are wait periods.
